Our Responsibility and our place within society
We have already mentioned the fact that all of us hold down jobs and that no one can expect to receive an income by joining our fellowship. Therefore, we place a lot of emphasis upon our children's and youth's receiving a good, solid professional training. So nearly all professions - from craftsmen up to atomic physicists - are represented among us.

ges2It goes without saying that in our fellowship we perform our duties as citizens - for example, by voting in elections, and serving in the military.

Despite the fact that we have a lot to do both at work and in our families, many of us sacrifice our time and our energy to perform social welfare, and cultural tasks within our society. Our youth can be found in the Red Cross, in the Auxiliary Fire Department, local musical groups, in sports clubs and orchestras.

Our youth show a striking tendency to go into social professions. Despite the fact that there are a relatively small number of those called "Norwegians" in Austria (about 300 persons of which the half are children) a good number work as doctors, physiotherapists, nurses, kindergarten teachers and such like.

Something we would like to call attention to is our involvement in a more hidden "ministry" for our society: that is, the power of praying for our fellow-man. The Bible exhorts us (1 Timothy 2,:2-3 ) to pray for "all who are in high positions, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life, godly and respectable in every way". In this manner, we undoubtedly contribute to the peace of the country.

Besides this, we follow with great interest the political and social developments in our country and in the world at large, even though we rarely show up in public debates, nor are we directly active in politics.

Our fellowship is greatly concerned that the material needs and social misery that exists in many countries of our earth is relieved by means of practical neighbourly love. Therefore, we carry out humanitarian assistance in our fellowship: along with government authorities, ges1and with the pharmaceutical industry, we work to provide tons of medicine, as well as in other sources of relief, such as clothing, shoes and food which are distributed especially to South America and to the states of the former Soviet Union. Many voluntary workers see to it that these goods are really distributed to the needy and to the poorest people in hospitals, orphanages and families with many children.
